ACS RELAY FOR LIFE - April 4-5, 2009

Members of the Rebel Legion's Mos Eisley Base, along with guests from the Dune Sea Garrison of the 501st Legion, attended the overnight American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life event at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, AZ.

Among the highlights of the event included a raffle and button sales that earned $205 for the charity and an emotional Luminaria Ceremony. As well, a Pied Piper in the form of a little astromech droid (courtesy of Tiny from the Arizona R2D2 Builders Club), led a large group of younglings around the relay track.

We were greeted by smiles and warm feelings from many of the event participants.

Phoenix Comicon - Jan 23-25, 2009

Phoenix Cactus Comicon was a great success for Mos Eisley Base!

Our costuming panel was very popular, with a room full of people eager to learn the way of the Force! Or rather... the details of making Star Wars costumes!

The Saber Exhibitions were very popular, especially with younglings.

Thanks to the generous donation of three lightsabers from Ultra Sabers, our raffle raised $436 for Disabled Explorers.

A big thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets, and to PCC for giving us space to make this happen.

MAKING JEDI DREAMS COME TRUE - TUCSON, JUNE 7, 2008

A young man with a serious illness made a wish to go to Disney World for Jedi Training. On June 7, he was given a combination send-off and birthday party at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson. Of course he had a Star Wars theme, but imagine his surprise when several Jedi entered the building, followed by Darth Vader and stormtroopers!

A mini-Jedi training session took place, with several younglings learning the basics of lightsaber dueling. A great time was had by all, but especially the birthday boy. What a privilege it was for us to help make this boy's dream come true!

ACS RELAY FOR LIFE - SURPRISE, ARZIONA - APRIL 26, 2008

On Saturday evening, April 26, members of the Arizona contingent of Mountain Base participated in the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life event taking place in Surprise, Arizona.

We shared a space with the Dune Sea Garrison of the 501st Legion... or to be more accurate, we moved into their space and set up our table and banner, and started recruiting members and fundraising. I have to say the 501st Legion members were great sports about our “Rebel Takeover” though!

ACS had dubbed the evening “Movie Night” and many movie themed costumes were present, but no one received as much attention as the Star Wars characters.

We held a raffle that raised $75. Also attending were several Jedi, Visas Marr, Slave Leia, a Rebel Fleet Trooper and a Tusken Raider.

The highlight of my evening was when a young man of about 10 came running up to me and said, “Look out Jedi, Darth Vader is coming!”
